Masonic Temple

Billings, MT

Originally built in 1910, the Masonic Temple is a prominent historic building of downtown. With the interior being almost entirely renovated through its life, it provides the perfect foundation for a modern mixed-use building that respects its historic context. Working closely with SHPO & NPS ensures that all historic details are preserved to the correct standard while rehabilitating the building and updating its use.

While retaining the existing walls on the main floor, partial height walls will be introduced to create a shared micro-retail shopping experience is on the ground floor: including reintroducing the 14' tall storefront in the original, historic style.

The second floor is seeing new life as (10) studio apartments, with 15' vaulted ceilings showcasing the original timber structure of the building and retaining the exposed brick on all the exterior walls.

The third floor and mezzanine will be divided into (2) business tenants and will retain & refurbish all the historic components throughout this floor: 22' ceiling height and original coffer detailing around the beams, original 1910 transom windows & trim, and the original lath & plaster triple gothic vaulted chamber room.
